About Walt

My photo
I officially took charge of the Dearborn Heights City Clerk’s office on April 1st. There will be a primary on Tuesday, August 2nd with the general election being held on November 8th. I urge everyone to remember to vote in the primary for Walt Prusiewicz, to keep me as your City Clerk. I am the only candidate running that has on-the-job experience. I took an early retirement from Wayne County after 30 years of service. I hold a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from Wayne State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; also from Wayne State University. I am a lifelong resident of southeastern Michigan. I have been married for 21 years to Karen and we have made our home in the great city of Dearborn Heights for our entired married life. We have one son, Gregory who attended St. Sabina Elementary School and graduated from Divine Child High School and is now attending Otterbein University. I am an active member of the Divine Child parish in Dearborn, belong to AFSCME Council 25, Sub Chapter 38 and am a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Stitt Post.

ENDORSEMENTS

I would like to thank the following organizations for their endorsements and support of my candidacy for City Clerk. I am humbled to think how far I've come. Just 6 months ago, I started this new job and was a totally unknown candidate who had never run for political office before. I won the primary by a large margin thanks to the 1,456 people who voted for me. Now the following organizations have given me their endorsements and I am so appreciative and promise to live up to their trust and to continue to run the Clerk's Office with integrity.

WELL WORTH READING

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

DZIEKUJE THANK YOU THANK YOU DZIEKUJE

"Despite the advice about choosing your friends wisely, you really can't choose your friends. They choose you."

Karen, Gregory and I would like to thank each and every one of you, our old friends and our new friends, for all your support, love, encouragement and advice.  Thanks for choosing us!

Many thanks to all who have supported me, put a sign up, spread the word and voted for me and worked at the polls.  I so appreciate all of you who have done so much to make the primary a great success.  We will need to continue to work hard for the general election on November 8, 2011.  Please contact Karen or me if you are willing to assist in any capacity to help retain me as your City Clerk.

I want to thank the League of Women Voters for holding the televised forum and I was happy to participate.  It can be seen on your local government access channel at 1:00 pm and again at 7:00 pm on most days.  I hope you will watch and I know you will want to vote for me to continue my work in the clerk's office.

REMEMBER TO VOTE ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 2nd.  Polls are opened from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm and absentee ballots are still available at City Hall in my office and you can apply and cast your ballot if you will be unavailable on voting day to make it to the polls. Here I am casting my absentee ballot since I will be hard at work on Election Day . . .  I know I made the right choice!

Yard Signs are displayed

Thanks Mike!

Ron is hard at work on the signs, the "supervisors" are under the table!

Folded, stapled, ready to deliver.

Louie the Campaign Dog!

Lots of signs on this street, wonder who lives here?

After my team of volunteers spent hours folding and stapling signs, July 3rd finally arrived and we were ready to go out and deliver them to all the wonderful people who agreed to display signs for me and support my campaign to continue my work as the Dearborn Heights City Clerk.  I can’t thank all the people enough who worked on this project, especially my wife who designed the signs and organized the volunteers and the residents of Dearborn Heights who are displaying them for me.   A special thanks to all who contributed to this effort, namely Karen, Joe, Kathy, Ron, Kenny, Kristin and Gary.  A big, big thanks to Mike.  THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!  I love you all.  If you are willing to have a sign displayed in your yard or business, please complete the form below and we will deliver one to you.  As of today, there are only 29 more days until the Primary on August 2nd.  The campaign is going great and I have no doubt that my name will be on the ballot come November 8.

Absentee Ballots are in the mail.

Well folks, the absentee ballots have been issued.  Over 2,000 ballots were sent out on Wednesday of this week.  A big thank you to our wonderful and beloved “Pit Crew”, namely Exie, Annette, Patsy, Al, Donna, Dennis and Greg.  With their assistance, the Clerk’s office has completed nearly all of the necessary preparations for the August 2nd election.  The voting machines are being readied and have already been tested.  The poll workers’ supplies have been prepared for the big day.  We are in the process of finalizing the poll worker schedules and should have it completed in the very near future.  Please remember to vote on August 2nd and if you are an absentee voter, please remember to return your ballot and sign the outer envelope.  Absentee ballot applications are still available at my office or by clicking the link at the right.  Once again, a big THANK YOU, to all who have made this process run so smoothly.

I am filled with gratitude for family and friends . . . old and new.

“Gratitude can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”  Melody Beattie
A huge THANK YOU to all of the people who attended or contributed so generously to my fundraiser this week.  We had a large turnout and I was touched  by the many people who came from different phases of my life, old and new, to support me in this endeavor.   If there was ever any doubt that I was making the right decision when I decided to throw my hat into the political ring, it was erased on Wednesday night when I realized all the people who believe in me.  I had childhood friends like Gerry Sitko and Dan Bernard who I have known since the first grade.  There were family members and many of my neighbors of 21 years of living in Dearborn Heights and attending St. Sabina and Divine Child.  AFSCME Council 25, my union of most of my adult life, was well represented by Rick Johnson as was my current Wayne County retirees’ union by Bettye Misuraca.   Friends from the American Legion were there as well as the many new friends I have made in the city of Dearborn Heights.  I appreciate the many elected officials from both the city and Wayne County who took the time to attend or were generous enough to give donations.  With a little over a month to go until election day, I am confident we will have a victory come August 2nd and I have these people and many more to thank.
